Lowell Tilzer, MD, Ph.D.
Dr. Tilzer received his bachelor, MD and Ph.D. degrees, as well as his residency training at the University of Kansas. He served on the School of Medicine faculty until 1992, when he left as a†full professor. After KU, he worked in the blood bank industry. In the mid 1990s he set up a stem cell collection and processing unit at Community Blood Center in Kansas City. He continued his stem cell activities in Wichita, Kansas with the American Red Cross. Most recently, he was Chief Executive Officer for the American Red Cross Southwest Region.
His many accomplishments include being the first to implement bar coding for laboratory specimen processes, discovery of progesterone receptors in meningiomas and being the first to suggest anti-progestin therapy for treatment of inoperable meningiomas. Dr. Tilzer also invented and patented novel techniques for extracting DNA and RNA using gel barrier technology, which has led to the development of Isogene Biotechnology.
In addition, Dr. Tilzer is co-author of the Laboratory Test Handbook, third edition, the second highest selling book on laboratory medicine. He has also published more than 40 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Tilzer, in addition to being Medical and Laboratory Director of MiraCell, is a professor of Pathology at the KU School of Medicine and Medical Director of Clinical Laboratories in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
Carolyn Faulkner, BS (ASCP) BB
Carolyn is the acting Blood Bank Supervisor for MiraCell. She possesses over 20 years of blood banking experience. Carolyn†worked†for†the Aurora Area Blood Bank (now known as Heartland Blood Center) in Aurora, IL from 1979 through 1989†performing bench testing and supervisory functions.† In 1989, Carolyn became an Analytical Technician at Amoco Research Center in Naperville, IL. Prior to joining MiraCell, Carolyn served as†Technical Supervisor in the Donor Testing Laboratory†at the Community Blood Center, Kansas City, MO from 1992 through February 2004.† She†received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Western Illinois University, and has additional course†work in education and chemistry.††She is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks and the Heart of America Association of Blood Banks.†
Robin Lewis, R.N., B.S.N.
Robin†is the Clinical Nurse Account Specialist for MiraCell.† Prior to joining MiraCell, Robin was a Labor/Delivery/Post-Partum/Recovery (L.D.R.P.) Nurse for approximately five years in the greater Kansas City area.† In addition to being a nurse at the bedside,†Robin was also responsible for implementing the Post-Partum Telephone Follow-Up Program at Saint Luke's Northland Hospital for over two-and-a-half years.††She received her bachelor's degree in nursing from Missouri Western State University in 2000, where she graduated with cum laude honors.† Prior to becoming a Registered Nurse, Robin†was involved with marketing numerous healthcare services in Dallas, TX, representing 6 medical clinics in greater metropolitan Dallas.† Robin also received a Biology degree with a chemistry minor from the University of Missouri in Columbia, graduating with honors in 1994.† In addition to being Newborn Resuscitation Program (N.R.P.) certified, Robin is also Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R.) certified.†
Mark Ferguson, MBA, CTBS
Mark is the Clinical Operations Manager for MiraCell.† Mark has over 15 years experience in business management, sales & marketing, quality control, and the integration of technology in clinical applications within transplant recovery services.† He has been trained and certified in the surgical recovery and cryogenic storage of human tissue for transplantation.† He also developed one of the very first donor screening communication centers for a major organ and tissue procurement organization.† This incorporation provided quality control and operations management, as well as information technology systems integration that†streamlined the process for quality donor screening.† Mark received his certification in tissue banking specialty in 2000, and his MBA in December of 2001.† Over the years, he has performed as a consultant to medical and retail businesses.† Mark is dedicated to the implementation of life saving and life enhancing possibilities, and is very active with community service and economic growth initiatives.
Perry L. Anderson
Perry is the†Vice President†for MiraCell. He brings over twenty years of experience in marketing, sales management and business operations to MiraCell. Perry received his Industrial Marketing Degree from University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1984. He spent eight years in sales and management with McKesson, a San Francisco based corporation. In 1992 he joined a specialty pharmacy startup company, StatScript Pharmacy; a Missouri based company, as Vice President/Co-Founder. In 1996 the company was acquired by Chronimed, Inc., a Minnesota based company, he assumed the role of Sr. Vice President & Officer with direct responsibility for the StatScript Pharmacy division. Perry was responsible for building this company into the nation's largest chain of specialty pharmacies focusing on HIV/AIDS, Organ Transplant and other Chronic Illnesses.
